About Green Manitoba

Green Manitoba is a Special Operating Agency of the provincial government, currently accountable to the Minister of Conservation and Water Stewardship.  Created in 2006, the Agency operates under a Charter approved by the Lieutenant Governor in Council and receives input from its Advisory Board.  It serves as a catalyst, knowledge portal and service delivery agent for government departments and a wide range of public and private sector organizations to help achieve its vision of a cleaner and greener Manitoba.

The Agency is the access point for public and private sectors to acquire information about provincial sustainability issues and helps citizens make better sustainability decisions.  Using an entrepreneurial approach focusing on innovation, cost-effective and practical solutions, Green Manitoba delivers programs on a cost-recovery basis to foster sustainable practices in its four major program areas:

  • Waste Reduction,
  • Climate Change,
  • Environmental Sustainability Education, and
  • Water Conservation.

Green Manitoba subscribes to the belief that changing public attitudes and perceptions in support of environmental action affords an opportunity for new program activities and stakeholder partnerships.  The Agency connects public sector thinking on sustainable waste, water, and energy issues and practices that, through collaboration with partners, can be implemented effectively.
