Learning Garden Program

Highlights of the Program

Garden Description:  Learning gardens are intended to be teaching tools.  For schools that are a part of the Learning Garden Program, there is an expectation that teachers are incorporating the garden into their lessons and using them as a basis for interactive lessons and activities.

Incentive Payments:  The NFL Learning Garden Program will support schools at a funding level of up to $3,000 over two years to establish NFL Learning Gardens in K-12 schools across Canada.

Hub Support:  Green Manitoba, as Manitoba Hub, will manage the Manitoba Program on behalf of Nutrients for Life Canada.

Teacher Training:  NFL Educational Coordinators provide pedagogical assistance and conduct professional development workshops with NFL Learning Garden schools. Soil testing kits may be provided to teachers during workshops.

Lesson Plans:  NFL has created lesson plans that support the establishment of NFL Learning Gardens.  Resources for teachers and students are available on the NFL website (www.nutrientsforlife.ca).  Green Manitoba also provides sample lessons in their Guide to Educators in Canada.
